Cyber Security Job USA in the Office of the Secretary the Office of the Chief Information Officer, the Office of the Associate Chief Information Officer (ACIO) for Cybersecurity and Information Protection, and the Office of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). The person in this position answers directly to the ACIO/CISO, who is in charge of the DOT’s cybersecurity program and is responsible for overseeing and running it.

The Office of the Secretary (OST) makes national transportation policy and promotes transportation that uses more than one mode. Anyone who is a citizen of the United States can apply. The Direct Hire Authority will be in charge of filling this position. This job opening doesn’t follow the “Rule of Three,” the Veterans Preference, or the usual way of scoring and ranking candidates. AFGE 1137 holds this position in the bargaining unit.

Duties

You will do the following as an IT Specialist (Cybersecurity):

  • Define the top goals for government-wide hacking efforts and look for new chances to improve the privacy and safety of DOT systems. Explain in writing, in talks, and in meetings how safety and privacy are important for business and how they can be used to achieve strategy goals.
  • Improve the creation of privacy and hacking measures and practices to help the agency meet its goals and protect private information. Set broad plans, methods, and clear goals to do this. Make choices based on data and suggest solutions that measure how well they protect privacy and safety.
  • It helps the CISO come up with a full cybersecurity plan for the department, which includes using the DOT’s cybersecurity and privacy program to help with mission-critical tasks and making performance standards for the DOT’s cybersecurity and privacy program.
  • The person currently in office is in charge of making sure that higher-level security requirements are followed, like those that come from laws, rules, or presidential orders.
    Follows the Federal Information Security Modernization Act, linked NIST standards, and agency IT security policies and standards to make sure that IT systems are secure, available, and up-to-date. consistently checks the current state of system security, keeps an eye on activities, and rates staff security knowledge based on their duty areas. He or she is in charge of all DOT systems that fall under the OCIO’s control and is responsible for their operations, maintenance, and support activities. These include core services, shared controls, and life cycle management.

Ideal Job Candidate: DOT OCIO is looking for a seasoned worker to run the safety projects for the whole department. These programs can be different, but they usually include corporate security design, programs that make sure they meet government standards, and managing the department’s high-value assets (HVAs). We need someone to lead a program that includes cybersecurity research, engineering, technical services, and information management for the department. This person should have experience planning, engineering, and implementing complex technical capabilities such as Identity Credential and Access Management (ICAM), management of the Department’s Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA), and the High-Value Asset (HVA) program.

Qualifications for Job

You must meet the specialized experience requirements for the grade at which you are applying to meet the basic requirements for this job.

To get to Grade 15, you need at least one year of specialized experience that is at least as good as the GS-14 level. This experience must include:

  • Managing, keeping, and organizing technical and non-technical tasks (like network/IT infrastructure upgrades and network/IT resource releases) for short- and long-term goals to help an organization’s office automation efforts.
  • Keep information management and IT programs up-to-date and improve them so that they can provide systems, tools, and analysis abilities.
  • Providing in-depth and independent information technology help, services, advice, and suggestions to leadership on information security issues. Monitoring and detecting intrusions into the network while following good security practices.
